The history of lacrosse has evolved from one person running through the other team, to plays that involve much thought. The standard strategy of a team on offense is having one person behind the goal, two people on either side out wide in line with the goal posts. Then one man is in front of the net, and two people are at the top of the the box, away from the goal. This forms a 1-3-2 and can be seen on the picture to the right. The numbers in blue are the attackman who are the best offensive players on the field. the players in green are the middies. they are equally good at offence and defense since they have to play both. the arrows show in the direction that the triangles formed by each group of middie or attack rotate in. for instance, if the ball is at the back of the goal or with number 5 who is curling around the net towards number 6, the number 1 middie will cut towards the net in an attempt for a pass if the defense is not looking. When this happens though, there will be two people in front of the net so when 1 is coming in two leaves and heads to number 3's spot. then number three moves over to fill in were number on was to balance the field. as you can see the middies move in a triangular form and always keep distance between themselves, not allowing one defense-man to cover two offense. now lets say though that when number five was curling up from "x" or behind the net he didn't pass it. now number six and five are one the same side and none is behind the net. just like the middies the attack moves in a triangle so 6 goes to 4 and 4 moves to were 5 started. Both the middies and attack move in a triangle and can go both ways not just the way the arrows suggest, the can reverse as well.
